Scuba Tune Up

Course Description:
If you have not dived for a while, the PADI Scuba Tune Up is for you. The course runs over just one day and consists of a small theory session, a pool session and an open water dive. The Scuba Tune Up Program is a great way to brush up on your skills if you have not dived for a while.

Pre-Requisites:
Open Water Diver certification is a minimum.

Course Outline:
A one day program, the Scuba Tune Up offers

  • A theory session covering the basics of diving and dive tables.
  • A pool session brushing up on all the skills covered in the Open Water Course
  • An optional open water dive to refine your skills in the ocean environment at one of Adelaide's premier dive sites.

Advanced Open Water Program

Course Description:
The PADI Advanced Open Water Program is designed to increase the knowledge, skills and experience of a diver for practical application in the diving environment. It is a course designed to run back to back with the Open Water Diver Course, re-enforcing skills and also learning new skills for diving at night, underwater navigation, deeper waters and wreck diving.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Open Water Diver Course or equivelant and a current dive medical. A dive medical is only valid for 12 months.  

Course Outline:
The Course consists of five dives, two of which are mandatory core dives, the remaining three dives are electives. The Core Dives are: Underwater Navigation and Deep Diving. For the electives you can choose to do three out of the following list: Night Diving, Wreck Diving, Dry Suit Diving, Boat Diving, Underwater Naturalist, Drift Diving, Underwater Photography, Enriched Air Nitrox Diving or Search and Recovery Diving. The course is usually run over one weekend.

Included in the Course:
PADI Adventures in Diving manual and work slate in a vinyl wallet, course air fills (in Adelaide), certification cost, personal certification card, PADI wall certificate, instructor fees, 2 local boat dives and 3 shore dives. Rescue Diver Course

Course Description:
This course aims at training divers to be able to percieve and prevent possible diving accidents as well as providing leaders with the skills required to cooridnate a rescue in the event that a serious diving accident occurs. This includes in water assists, tows, full rescues and exits from either the shore or a boat. The course not only aims at teaching students the skills they need in order to execute a rescue, but it aims at teaching divers to percieve potential problems and accidents before they occur, and how to prevent them. The course objective is to give students a knowledge and experience of proven rescue techniques and accident management skils as well as improving their inwater skills. Students are also taught in water EAR and participate in a CPR review.

Pre-Requisites:
Applicants must be certified as a PADI Open Water Diver or equivelant and hold a current diving medical. You also must have completed a sanctioned course in CPR training within the last 3 years. If not, a PADI Medic First Aid Course can be offered in conjunction with the Rescue Diver Course, teaching student's effective first aid, CPR and EAR training. You are required to be at least 15 years of age and to have logged a minimum of 20 dives in open water to certify as a PADI Rescue Diver.

Course Outline:
There are 5 academic sessions and 12 open water exercises to complete, which would usually equate to approx. 25 hours of instruction over two consecutive weekends. There will also be some confined water sessions to practice the skills which you well be required to demonstrate in open water.

Divemaster

Course Description:
The PADI Divemaster certification is a very prestigious certification and the first step to becoming a diving professional within the recreational ranks. It is designed to give those divers who wish to work in the industry or lead club/social dives the knowledge, skills and experience to supervise all phases of diving activity in a safe and professional manner. The PADI Divemaster must display strong physical skills, fitness, ability and the proper attitude to safely organize and conduct diving activities.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent and PADI Rescue Diver or equivalent. Candidates must be at least 18 years of age by the course commencement date. Candidates must also provide all of their own diving equipment including an emergency signaling device (i.e. whistle) etc. You must have completed and logged at least 60 dives in open water to certify and have proof of CPR training within the last 2 years.

Course Outline:
The Course is run over approx. 3 weeks, breaking up the 12 academic topics and two pool training sessions, usually run on one weekend, for a total pool time of approx. 6 to 8 hours. The classroom topics covered are: The Role and Characteristics of a PADI Divemaster, Supervising General Diving Activities Part 1& 2, Assisting with Student Divers in Training, Dive Theory Introduction, The Physics of Diving, The Physiology of Diving, Dive Equipment, Decompression Theory and the RDP, Divemaster Conducted Programs, Risk Management, The Business of Diving and Your Diving Career. The pool & ocean training exercises include: 400 Metre Swim, 800 Metre Snorkel Swim, 15 Minute Tread Water, 100 Metre Inert Diver Tow, Problem Solving Exercises, Underwater Mapping and Survey, Emergency Assistance Plan and 11 Internship segments. The above exercises must be completed within certain time frames. Once academic and pool training exercises are complete the student must complete an internship, working with REAL students in training under the supervision of the course instructor for 5 separate pool sessions and 6 separate open water sessions.

Instructor Development CoursePart 1 (Assistant Instructor)

Course Description:
The Assistant Instructor course is designed to provide PADI Divemasters with important extra knowledge, skills and qualifications as diving educators. Because of the high level of achievement shown by the AI rating, Assistant Instructor courses are only run by PADI IDC Staff Instructors, Master Instructors or Course Directors - the highest ranked Instructor levels in the PADI training system.

Pre-Requisites:
Candiddates must be certified as a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) and be at least 18 years of age by the commencement date of the course. Candidates must also provide a current scuba diving medical certificate at the beginning of the course. Finally candidates are required to successfully complete the pre-assessment activities at the start of the course.

Course Outline:
The course duration is 30-40 hours (in addition to study in personal time) and can be completed in 3 full weekends, depending on class size and other factors. The course includes: Pre-assessment activities to review your diving knowledge and skills; 14 reading assignments to be completed in your personal time and 16 knowledge reviews to be completed in your own time; 7 classroom sessions to learn the PADI teaching methods, and 8 practical teaching assignments evaluated to the standard used in a PADI Instructor Examination (IE).

Instructor Development CoursePart 2 (Open Water Scuba Instructor)

Course Description:
Once you have made the decision to develop the professional side of your diving by completing the Divemaster Program, you may decide to become an instructor with PADI. By doing this you decide to join a team of professional instructors in the worlds largest and most popular diver training organization, opertating in more than 175 countries and territories. PADI instructors are required to meet the dive industry's highest instructor training standards. The PADI IDC has been redesigned, making learning easier through instructional system design and cutting edge teaching media. The new IDC, with its modern educational principles and manageable, positive learning structure, is more effective and efficient. This is a full time program which is structred to be completed in 9 days, with the Instructor Examination program designed to follow the IDC.

Pre-Requisites:
Condidates must be certified as a PADI Divemaster (or equivalent) and be at least 18 years of age by the course commencement date. Candidates must aslo provide a current scuba diving medical certificate at the beggining of the course. In addition candidates must have completed and logged 100 open water dives and successfully completed the pre assessment activities at the start of the course. In order to take part in this course you need to have been certified as an open water diver for at least 12 months. 

Course Outline:
To become an instructor you need to complete two phases: PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) and PADI Instructor Evaluation (IE). The IDC is conducted at Divers Delight with the IE being conducted by an independent PADI examiner. The IDC is the extensive preparatory program consisting of twenty-two required training segments. The curriculum is extremely varied and involves lectures (with an accompanying workbook); workshop/discussions; and practice teaching sessions in the classroom, pool and open water. Topics for the IDC include: Course Orientation Learning, Instruction and the PADI System. Knowledge development presentations focusing on teaching Project AWARE and Peak Performance Buoyancy Specialties is combined into the IDC as well as the PADI Discover Scuba and Snorkeling programs, teaching in Confined Water, Conducting Open Water Training Dives. Dive Industry Overview, General Standards and Procedures Legal Responsibility and Risk Management, The Role of Media and Prescriptive Teaching PADI Scuba Diver and Open Water Diver Course, How to Teach the Recreational Dive Planner, Teaching Children, The PADI Continuing Education Philosophy, Business Principles for the Dive Instructor, Adventures in Diving Program, Specialty Diver Courses and Master Scuba Diver Program, Rescue Diver Course, Divemaster Course, Diver Retention Programs, Practice Instructor Examination are all topics and presentations worked on during your IDC.

Course Description:
The Project A.W.A.R.E. Specialty is designed to familiarize divers and non divers with plight of worldwide aquatic eco-systems and to spread awareness of how individuals can contribute to thier conservation.

Pre-Requisites:
Participants need not be certified divers nor have any prior scuba or snorkeling experience.

Wreck Diver Specialty Course

Course Description:
The PADI Wreck Diver Course is an introduction to wreck diving which helps divers to develop the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to safely participate in wreck diving.

Pre-Requisites:
Be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent and be at least 15 years of age. A current scuba diving medical must be provided.

Course Outline:
The Course consists of 4 open water dives over one weekend (2 dives per day), one theory night combined with a reel/guideline workshop and an optional pool session.
Topics covered are:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of wreck diving
  • The preparation and use of lights, air supplies, special equipment, penetration lines and reels
  • Limited visibility diving and emergency techniques

Night Diver Specialty

Course Description:
The PADI Night Diving Specialty Course is a great way to tackle this somewhat tricky diving under the guidance of a trained instructor. Many people are hesitant when it comes to night diving, but with the proper training you can make it easy, as well as seeing some of the oceans creatures that only come out at night.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent. A current diving medical is also needed.

Course Outline:
The course usually runs as follow

  • Thursday Evening - meet and greet/paperwork
  • Next Evening - day dive and night dive at a one of Adelaide's premier dive sites
  • Third Evening - Night Dive on the boat at The Dredge or Seacliff reef

Search and Recovery Specialty

Course Description:
This is a great way to learn important Navigation skills, whilst having fun at the same time. You will learn different underwater search patterns to help find missing items. You will also learn about different lifting techniques to move things around underwater without any effort. The PADI Search and Recovery course is all you need to learn about search techniques and underwater lifting.

Pre-Requisites:
A Open Water Certification is all you need to tackle this one, set aside one weekend and be prepared to tie lots of knots and have some great fun. Also required is a current diving medical.

Course Outline:
The Search and Recovery Course usually runs as follows

  • Thursday Evening - Meet and greet, knot tying exercises
  • Saturday Morning - Pool Practice
  • Saturday Afternoon - Shore dive
  • Sunday - Two shore dives

Underwater Navigator program

Course Description:
The PADI Underwater Navigator program is designed to allow you to refine and master underwater navigation. Your training will include, knowledge development, planning and practical application as you gain confidence in you ability to navigate back to a destination within 6 meters of your dive plan. You will save air, see more, cover more ground and surface with the pride of a distinguished diver.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Open Water Diver, Junior Open Water Diver or equivalent and a current dive medical.

Course Outline:
The Course consists of four dives over two days. Topics include: Importance of navigation in the underwater environment, distance estimation underwater, natural navigation underwater, using underwater search patterns, and compass navigation.

PADI Navigation manual, DVD, air fills (in Adelaide), pool training, 2 shore dives, instructor fees, personal certification card and PADI wall certificate.

Required Equipment:

Photography Specialty

Course Description:
The PADI Underwater Photography Specialty Course is designed to provide you with the skills needed to take beautiful pictures to share your underwater experience and to maintain a permanent record of your dives.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Open Water Diver or Junior Open Water Diver, or an equivalent rating. In addition a current dive medical is required.

Course Outline:
Three dives are included in the course along with 4 theory sessions over two nights or afternoons. Photography techniques are discussed demonstrated and practiced. We will cover techniques on pre dive and post dive camera maintenance, photography basics, exposure, focus and perspective, controlling motion, camera types, strobe photography, macro, close up and wide lens photography plus 10 other areas of under water photography. The course is generally run over one or two weekends and requires approximately 22 hours of instruction.

PADI Photography manual, air fills (in Adelaide), pool training, 2 shore dives, instructor fees, personal certification card and PADI wall certificate.

Required Equipment:
Complete open water diving equipment, including BCD, regulators with alternate 2nd stage, pressure gauge, depth gauge or computer, timing device, compass, slate with a pencil, underwater light, weight, personal surface marker buoy, wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins and dive booties. If you do not have your own camera speak with one of the shop staff to organize a hire camera for your program.

Deep Diver Specialty Course

Course Description:
The PADI Deep Diver Course is designed to be an introduction to deep diving and to help divers develop the necessary skills, knowledge and techniques to safely participate in deep diving.

Pre-Requisites:
Be certified as a PADI Advanced Open Water Diver or equivalent and be at least 15 years old. A diving medical must be submitted, no older than 12 months.

Course Outline:
The Course consists of 4 open water dives over one weekend, an optional pool session plus one theory evening. This would generally equate to approx. 24 hours of instruction.
Topics covered are:

  • Planning, organization, procedures, techniques, problems and hazards of deep diving
  • Risk Factors and RDP Table Review
  • Safety Stops and Emergency Decompression Procedures
  • Specialty Equipment and Procedures
  • Recompression Chamber Orientation (pending availability)
  • Introduction to redundant air sources (twin tank systems and stage bottles)

Enriched Air Nitrox Course

Course Description:
The PADI Enriched Air Nitrox Specialty program is designed to give dives more of what they have always wanted, more time underwater. Enriched Air sometime called 'Nitrox', is recreational diving's latest tool in safely extending no-decompression limits. In addition to this wonderful gas is that it is hugely beneficial to your body and makes you feel so much better after a dive.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Open Water Diver, or equivalent, current diving medical and over the age of 15.

Course Outline:
The course is generally run over one weekend with theory components covered on the Saturday and one ocean dive completed on the Sunday. Topics include The Advantages and Disadvantages of Enriched Air, Equipment for Enriched Air Diving, Using the RDP with Enriched Air, Managing Oxygen Exposure, Special Applications for Enriched Air Diving, Emergencies and Enriched Air, Obtaining Enriched Air Fills, The Equivalent Air Depth Formula, The Oxygen Partial Pressure Formula, The Maximum Depth Formula and an Introduction to Gas Blending.

The equipment is NOT supplied as part of the course. It is suggested that you purchase your own equipment at this level of training. Equipment can be hired from Divers Delight at a cost of $75 for the entire course.

Equipment Specialty

Course Description:
The PADI Equipment Specialty Course is a great way to learn about the basics of equipment maintenance. This is not a service technician's course, but it does show you how to do emergency field repairs as well as cleaning and maintenance on your diving equipment.

Pre-Requisites:
PADI Open Water Diver or equivalent.

Course Outline:
The course will usually run over a either a few evenings during the week, or over a weekend, depending on your individual needs.

Included in the Course:
PADI Equipment manual, instructor fees, personal certification card, PADI wall certificate and tool hire.

Required Equipment:
Although no equipment is required for the course as there is no diving being done, you may want to bring along your own equipment so you and your instructor can pull it apart and then have fun putting it all back together.

Course Fee:
The course is $195. A $100 deposit is required to book your spot, with the balance to be paid on the first evening of the course.

Peak Performance Buoyancy

Course Description:
Buoyancy is one of the fundamental skills in scuba diving. Good buoyancy brings stability and comfort underwater. Are you in control of your diving? There is no better way to perfect your buoyancy and trim than the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course.

Pre-Requisites:
An Open Water certification is required for this course along with, you guessed it, a current dive medical.

Course Outline:
The course normally runs over one weekend with theory and land drills completed on Saturday morning, then you will put it all to practice in the pool during the skills workshop focusing on breathing, trim, positioning and an introduction to propulsion techniques. Video de briefing will generally take place after this session to identify issues that need to be developed for the assessment dives. On Sunday morning we hit the open water for our final two dives.

Included in the Course:
PADI PPB manual, DVD, air fills (in Adelaide), 2 shore dives, pool training, instructor fees, personal certification card and PADI wall certificate.

Required Equipment:
Complete open water diving equipment, including BCD, regulators with alternate 2nd stage, pressure gauge, depth gauge or computer, timing device, compass, slate with a pencil, weight, personal surface marker buoy, wetsuit, mask, snorkel, fins and dive booties.

Course Fee:The Peak performance Buoyancy program costs $250. A $100 deposit is required to book your spot on the course and the balance is due on the first theory session.

DAN (Divers Alert Network) Oxygen Course

Course Description:
The DAN Oxygen course is designed to train you in the procedures of oxygen administration and CPR. Oxygen is helpful in the management of heart attack, asthma, severe bleeding, shock and to relieve the symptoms of decompression illness.

Pre-Requisites:
Participants need no prior scuba diving or snorkeling experience.

Course Outline:
The course is run over two evenings or 1 full day.

Included in the Course:
DAN Oxygen First Aid Book, Oxygen Mask, certification cost, Instructor fees, wall certificate, and personal certification card.

Required Equipment:
Your Oxygen First Aid Book, Oxygen Mask (Included in the course)

Course Fee:
The total course investment is $150. A $100 deposit will secure you place on the course, with the balance due at the start of the course.

Emergency First Response

Course Description:
The EFR Course is for both divers and non-divers that covers both CPR and first aid techniques in a cohesive and detailed manner. The course focuses on the circle of care given to a patient until professional help takes over.

Pre-Requisites:
Participants need no prior scuba diving or snorkeling experience.

Course Outline:
Seven basic skills covered in the course are: Primary Assessment, One& Two Rescuer CPR, Obstructed Airway, Control of Bleeding, Shock Management, Illness Assessment and Injury Assessment. This course can be used to meet the PADI Rescue diver requirements for First Aid and CPR training.

Included in the Course:
Certification costs, instructor fees, wall certificate, and student training pack.

Students are required to provide all stationary for the course

Course Fee:
The PADI EFR course cost is $295. A $100.00 deposit will secure your place on the Course, with the balance due on the first theory evening.
